The scope here is this domain. Linked sites are outside it and publish their own policies; social platforms collect on their own account and show us only aggregate figures.
What the site collects

If you subscribe
The only thing a subscription requires is an address. It is not sold, not lent, and not used for anything other than the newsletter. Unsubscribing takes it off the list.
The legal grounds
Where European or United Kingdom law applies, the grounds are these: consent for the newsletter and for non-essential cookies, legitimate interest for keeping the site running and understanding in aggregate what is read, and legal obligation where one exists. Retention

You are not profiled and no automated decision is taken about you. What the measurement produces is totals, not a view of any one reader.
Selling data
There is no sale of personal information and no sharing for another party’s marketing. That answers the California opt-out question directly, rather than by pointing you at a form.
Your rights
You can ask for a copy of what we hold, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Every newsletter carries an unsubscribe link that works. Your browser settings control cookies. Readers in the EEA, the UK and California have additional statutory rights, and we honour them for everyone.
How it is protected
Sensible precautions are taken on the technical and the organisational side. Anyone claiming a website is perfectly secure is selling something.
If something goes wrong
Raise a problem with us through the contact page and it gets dealt with. That said, nothing obliges you to come to us first: your national supervisory authority takes complaints directly.
